Craft Show Displays!

During the summer, I keep an eye out for wooden window frames, picture frames, and doors to reclaim. Much of the homes around town are being renovated and that equals a gold mine for me!

These blue slatted doors were taken out of a nearby house and the owner kindly let me take them (and go through his piles of wooden treasure, though his old chicken wire windows were off-limits)

I started pulling the slats out by hand. The doors were pretty banged up and many of the slats were already missing so I didn't feel too bad about taking the doors down to just the frames. I was left with two empty doors that each had a divider going through them.

Then I passed them over to my dad. My parents live a few blocks away and it is so convenient! My dad and I team up on many projects, just like we did when I was in high school. I have so much to learn from him.

He cut down the peg board and screwed it into the frame. He reenforced the wonky corners so it will stand up to outdoor craft show abuse.

My display is going to look so very nice this year! Thanks Daddy-o (and the friendly neighbor that let me dig through his debris pile).

Saturday

My husband, The Super Geek, told me to sleep in today. I slept until 1:30 this afternoon! I must've been more worn down that I thought.

I got up and organized a bit of my life. (ABOVE PICTURE: mini laptop, calender, purple and blue sharpies that are fun to use, notebook I've been using for my "Flying Lessons", organizer, smart phone that I can't live without anymore :D, business cards and notecards)

I'm feeling about 70% better and I'm going to jump into making a stack of hats and the laundry I'm behind on. Six people make a whole lot of dirty clothes. Wish me luck!

An Apple a Day

I've been feeling pretty run down lately. I had one highly productive night (I made eight hats: my hands were flying!) and then the rest were lackluster (only one or two hats: half my usual four-hat-a-night average).

So I tried cleaning and decorating my house. Cleaning sometimes invigorates me! I decorated my Little Posie's room with old Unicorn calender pictures in thrift store frames, odd + ends I've accumulated (a bamboo back scratcher, postcards that fit the playful vibe of the room) and The Poppy Tree's whimsical prints.

Still, I didn't have that get-up-and-go feeling.

I was still crocheting, but at a snail's pace.

This afternoon, I came down with a fever, the sniffles, and a cough. Mystery solved. I am sick, not becoming lazy as I feared :D

Tonight, I'm going to relax. Maybe I'll watch some X-Files and drink hot tea with honey. Then, I'm going to go to bed early. Goodnight All.

My View on Friday's and Sunday's

School has begun, and with that comes The T-Ball Ace only coming to our house on the weekends. His mom lives in an awesome farm house surrounded by corn fields and pasture.

Rural Nebraska is so quiet and calm.

The air smells like fresh corn out here.

Old weathered wood is every where!

The Unicorn Hat

The NEW Unicorn Hats are about to be unleashed! Here is a special preview of the Unicorn Hat in Grape!

Look at those cute little ears! I also figured at a trick to make the forelock just the way I envisioned it. I love bring magical creatures to life!!!

Suggestions for other colors for the NEW Unicorn Hat? Post them here!

Our Summer Vacation

Happy Family Astronaut T-shirt

The Builder had his first day of First Grade today! The teacher asked all the kids what they did over summer vacation and The Builder said "I saved up all my chore money and bought Mario and Luigi for DS" (which we did on Monday!). I said "What!?"

"Don't you remember playing in sprinkler every Sunday at Granny's house?"

"We canoed at the lake TWICE! You could've told your class about that."

"You could've mentioned that your uncle, The Soldier, stayed with us for two whole weeks!"

"Or you could've talked about staying up late and watching movies with Mom and Dad."

Next time, The Builder's teacher asks him what he did for summer vacation, I'll make sure to write it all down for him :D

Etsy Stalker Giveaway!

Etsy Stalker hosted my first giveaway. It was so much fun! We decided to write names and pull them out of a hat for the winners so the kids would have a way to be involved.

The Builder was convinced that a whole group of people would be waiting in our front yard to see him pick the names. He was a little disappointed that he didn't have an audience :(

Little Posie tried to peek at the names, which frustrated The Builder. I assured him that this was okay because she can't read !

The Builder first picked Marsha N.

Little Posie picked Natalie A.

The T-Ball Ace couldn't be with us so The Builder picked for him. Robin S. was the third and final winner.

Winners get their choice of three different prizes: A free slouch beanie, 20% off of their purchase, or free shipping for their entire purchase. Next month, we will have another giveaway!

Outdoor Crocheting

A ladybug landed on a hat while I was making it today. It was magical!
