Pedestrian is at Caravan!!

CARAVAN skate shop!
Caravan Skate Shop, one of the top independent shops in North Platte is now carrying Pedestrian beanies!

Brandon
Brandon is pretty chill, as he describes himself. I've known him since we were working together delivering pizza and it is so awesome that he has his own store front. He is bringing the best boards, gear, and (of course!) hats to North Platte, NE.

The Beanie
The Beanies at Caravan match Brandon's laid back, earthy style.

Caravan has The Beanie in Olive, Charcoal, Linen, Fisherman Heather, Taupe Heather, Eggplant, and Chocolate. Stop in and check it out!

Buttons, buttons, buttons!

Buttons, buttons, buttons!
All this month, I've been on a massive vintage button hunt. I scoured thrift shops, estate sales, and sometimes even raiding my great grandma's old button jars. These awesome, pretty bits of plastic are used to accent The Fairy Godmother Scarf

The Fairy Godmother Scarves

and The Gretal Scarf

The Gretal Scarf

This is one of my favorite favorite buttons I'd been saving from my great grandma's collection. I love the silver disk offset on the navy! I never really knew my great grandma. She had a stroke when I was young and lost most of her ability to speak and move but when we visited, I was allowed to read to her from my American Girl and Marguerite Henry books. She must have been a wise and frugal lady for saving all those jars of buttons. I feel connected to my Kentucky roots when I use them. This special button is fastened onto The Fairy Godmother in Tropical Vacation
using sweet little white bows on the underside.

I am completely inspired for my fall season of scarf-making!

The Cast

These are the behind the scene people of Pedestrian!
I am on the left. Hello! My awesome husband Super Geek is on the right. he is super tall, helps me change lightbulbs without the use of stepladders, and gives great peptalks before I go to craft shows.

Little Posie is my three year old daughter and top model. She likes purses, her dolly, My Little Ponies, playing outside, and having tea parties.

The Builder is 6 years old and loves everything that stereotypical boys do, along with the occasional tea party with his sister, Little Posie. The Builder builds amazing cities, enjoys reading about ancient Egypt, and writes comic books in his spare time. Very rarely will he pose for pictures in Pedestrian hats but he requests a few each winter and has a lot of input on new designs. The Mummy Hat will be coming soon, at his suggestion.

The T-ball Ace is my 7 year old. He has such natural ability in all things athletic, loves purple, and is a video game wiz. He is losing teeth faster than he can grow them :D

My Little Onion has been a dear friend since high school. We lost touch after graduation for about ten years and reconnected over our love of sci-fi novels. My Little Onion has so many layers to her, just when I think I have her figured out she surprises me.

I met The Earth Child in the craft section of our big super store. I am envious of her dreadlocks (which I was never brave enough to have), and she has such an amazing profile. The Earth Child has such youth and her life is full of possibilities.

The Soldier is my younger brother. He is an adventurer, wanderer, writer, gamer, and one of my closest friends growing up. My father was a military man and The Soldier made the decision to enlist when he was 24. He realized one of his top goals in life was to travel, and the military was an interesting way to explore the world.

Etsy Tuesday

Today, we are going to look at some amazing throw pillows on Etsy (yay!) I recently started to recover all the outdated throw pillows given to my husband and I over the years. My DH loves pillows (and scented candles...but that's another story) and he can never turn one down so we had this collection of crazy and ugly pillows. I first purchased from Pillow Happy and was, indeed super happy with my new pillow.
Pillow Happy Gives a Hoot No.1

Then, I went on to get a second Owl pillow at make a pair.
Pillow Happy Gives a Hoot No.2
So now some nice, fluffy throw pillows have been recovered. The next set of pillows were by fall the ugliest and most used pillows we own. They are thrown to the floor and sat on when seating is needed and when the kids are coloring in the living room.
Faux Bois Brown on Natural
Festive Home Decor makes pairs of super durable, thick pillow covers. Although they are a little less 'artistic', the covers are so well sewn that this will be my go-to shop for when I need standard home decor.

Custom Requests

Custom requests are such a blast to make. When you are looking for the perfect gift for your bestie or little one, you just have to ask!

The Dragon Hood!
This Dragon Hood was requested by a gal that loved my Dragon Hats and wanted to get one for her massively dreadlocked friend so she asked if I could create a hood with dragon spikes. It took a few weeks of trial and error for me to be happy with the Dragon Hood but when it was finished, it was awesome (or rawrsome :D)

Dragon Hat in Chili Red with Saffron Spikes
Dragon Hats in custom colors are the easiest for me to accommodate. I keep a large supply of hues in stock so the wait time for a custom colored hat is usually one week, but can be as short as three days.

Country Pink, Bubblegum Pink, Bright Pink, Fucshia Heather, Magenta
Typically, when a customer asks for a hat or scarf in a different color option, I send them a picture of the hues I have available. That way, I don't need to make five different hats before I get to the best color combination for my customers.

Amelia Earhart's Aviator Hat
Last Fall, I was asked to translate Amelia Earhart's aviator hat into a crocheted design using a photo for inspiration. The end result was a super cool aviator in a hand dyed mossy green, red apple detailing, and a vintage buckle.

Custom Aviator Hat
Attaching the buckle was the hardest part to work out. She and I were both super pleased with how this custom aviator hat turned out. I love the chinstrap!

With me, or just about any other Etsy seller, custom requests are fantastic. Just give us a bit of time, communicate what you want, and don't ask us to copy another designer. Also, pictures and sketches definitely help :D
